11 – Verídica: Baduzinho Universitário in a country that not even 10% can reach.

In a previous post it was said how Julinho, Baduzinho de Madureira, still Badu for some closer, got to know Physical Education, because in the school where he studied he could not see how the Physical Education Teacher got to that position, nor the Physical Trainers he had.

On a certain night when Baduzinho was still playing at Olaria and coaching the teams of the Cocotá schools, he went to the club that was very close to the Castle where he lived and watched the physical preparation of his Friends who still played at the Club under the guidance of Professor Ênio Farias (in truth an Educator, a Master, who years later,  in 1974 he took the Specialization Course in Football together with Baduzinho to become a Coach, who in 1993, by Law, became a Professional Football Coach).

Ênio lived in Copa, worked in several schools and had his meals from day to night after training, relaxed a little and talked to his members before returning home. In one of these conversations, in the middle of 1969, Ênio asked everyone what they were going to do in the Vestibular, which they answered: Economics, Administration, Chemistry, one answered Lifeguards and other Professions. Baduzinho replied Engineering, he was at CPII (Colégio Pedro II Internato in São Cristóvão) in a class being prepared to try Engineering, another class was for Medicine and the 3rd for Letters (Law, Philosophy et catera). Ênio jumped up in his chair and interrupted: You have nothing to do with an engineer, you have to be a Physical Education Teacher and Coach, in fact you already perform these functions here at the club, preparing dozens of children to play soccer, alone, without assistant or physical trainer, you play all sports well, recreate the children at Bandeira beach and even teach them to swim (Sunny became South American champion),  Your path is clear. Julinho asked how a Teacher and a Coach were trained, and it was very well explained: while attending a Physical Education college, at the time there was only the EEFD of UFRJ for civilians and the ESEFEX for military personnel, both created by law in 1940. After 3 years of graduation, those with a tendency or experience in Soccer went there, and those in Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball and Athletics will specialize in their area in another year. Some will do Master’s and Doctorate, follow the Academic area.

He also said that there was a pre-university course that was held at the EEFD itself and in other places, preparing in the theoretical and practical part to try the entrance exam.

Zé went home and during dinner he told what happened moments before at the club to his father, military and mother. Seo Julio replied: Are you crazy? Teachers in Brazil earn little, almost nothing, Physical Education even less, and those pants? Kkk, but the son, Aries, was stubborn, he had dreamed of working outdoors, educating… and went ahead. It must be said that later Seo Julio was his biggest supporter, he cut out and kept all the articles about his son, who still has them.

Baduzinho lived on the Island, the Cursinho was in Urca, the Faculty too, but first he had to enter.

The so-called “Octave” on the bar was an Achilles tendon, those from sports other than Apparatus Gymnastics (name at the time) never saw or heard of. With the specific classes of the prep school, some began to perform the exercise (hanging from the bar, raising the legs over the device, and rotating to the starting position). On the day Baduzinho succeeded, others did it before, he heard from his colleague Thomas Badrian, very strong, a consecrated rower – he owned a Beetle 19 in the old days, with that small oval bottle and everything else original – that it exploded: this little will pass and I won’t! But it passed!

The evidence came:

Cooper’s test, in vogue at the time, of the Cooper Method that Coutinho translated, running the longest distance possible in 12 minutes. January, Summer, from 9 o’clock, coal track, which in the last races was close to forty and twenty degrees. Swimming, any style, it was enough to cross the pool, then dive in and grab a plate at the bottom of the pool. In this test I saw the greatest proof of overcoming in 75 years of life, Djalma Cavalcante, a fight athlete, sank even with 4 cork buoys in the preschool swimming classes, arrived at dawn to train, improved, removed some cork, but when he fell into the water he went to the bottom like an anvil. He was the leader of the class, everyone liked him, and they told him before the test to throw himself away and beat his arms and legs until he touched something solid, dying would not die because in addition to some lifeguards from the University, we would all throw ourselves (maximum solidarity inspiring confidence). He reached the other side of the pool – which had lost a few feet of water (they were in the belly of the heroic Djalma) – his eyes and mouth the size of those of an Alligator. Approved, Alligator passed!

Parenthesis: the following year, already studying, Baduzinho went to teach in a private preparatory course for the Pre-Graduation, Junior Teacher Course (first signed Work Card) and among others there were two students who stand out, lessons for life. One who lived on the Island and swam very well, one of the best in the practical part, because it is not that on the day of the race when he raised his arm in the stroke water fell in his throat, he panicked and grabbed the edge being disqualified… And a girl who had never entered the sea or the pool, out of fear began to set foot on the beach of Forte São João, where the practical classes took place, days later her legs, lay down, stroked with one hand on the ground, got better, swam, passed! Lie, terta? True!

Expectation until the day of the release of the grades, of those approved (50 women and 50 men in the first semester, 50 men and 50 women in the second). Baduzinho went to the building in Urca where they posted the lists.  It started with the 100th. From the list of men, the tip of my finger going up the page, nothing… from Julio, he went to the list of the top 50 (those of the first semester) 50 (ass in hand), 40 (Néris de Pitibiribaba), 30 (snails), 20 (what a shit), 10 (phodeo), 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 (stopped, it looked like him, there was a Tulio Sclebin, he went back to 4, it was himself, Julio Cesar Leal Junior, relief, unusual joy, he just wanted to pass. Happy! He followed the podium: 3rd. Jayme Pimenta Valente Filho (Cara Bom – Soccer Player. Graduation Speaker), congratulations! 2nd. Waldyr Mendes Ramos (Cara Bom – Swimming and Water Polo. Later Director of the Faculty, the EEFD), Congratulations! 1st. Nelson Parente Filho (Cara Bom – Remo. D.E.P.). He saw the lists of the Girls, because he liked all the girls in the preschool class, he was the youngest, and he was thrilled when he noticed the approved names, especially the Insulana Solange Bruno de Carvalho who gave many rides when Julinho still did not have a car. Women’s Podium: 3rd Sandra Regina de Goes Anderson; 2nd. Layla Iracema Wlassow (Climber), Celina Corrêa Batalha – 91.83 (Graduation Speaker). Turma Pioneiros do Fundão, which upon completing 50 years of graduation, in 2022 was renamed Pioneiros de Ouro do Fundão, and to this day, 2026, it meets annually on the first Saturday of December.

Teachers and Colleagues:

Professor Celio (phrases and uniform) – Mestre Célio Cidade received the Great Tribute at the Graduation of the Pioneers, much loved by the boys in the class, he did not teach the girls. The Paraninfo was Master Alfredo Gomes de Faria Jr., of Didactics, wrote Books and taught classes to boys and girls.

Celio Cidade was didactic in person, from his starched uniform, combining tintin by tintin, in addition to priceless tirades: a) before the hour is not the hour, after the hour neither, the hour is on time! b) when in indoor soccer class a student shouted look at the thief for one who was going to lose the ball, he stopped the class and called the Monitor Jacaré telling him to go to the rectory, because there was a thief in the classroom c) when one of those freighters took off from the old Galeão making the biggest noise in the world,  began to take off, before passing over the open classroom in Fundão, Mestre Célio lined up and dropped this one: let’s hope that the echoes of the aircraft that flies over us will drain away in the passage of time.

Maria Lenk – She led the Class of 70 to the Pioneer in Fundão, herself a Pioneer (the first Brazilian woman to compete in an Olympics) because she had dreamed of taking the old EEFD to new and modern facilities on Fundão Island where there were already many Colleges. He convinced the authorities of the time and when construction began he took the class back to Urca for the following years, while the New School was built.

Aptibol (work-work-work), Maré Mansa (look at the track), Margarida, Paulo Servo, Affonsinho, Álvaro, Lucio, Hans, Ernesto Santos, Julio Bruno, Hermanny, Amilton. And many more, Constellation!

Paulistinha – former soccer player, one of those who most resembled the stereotype of the ball player, joker, playful, always cheerful and easygoing, tripped over leaves to make others laugh.

Jayme – one of the idols of the class, loved by all, Loved by the girls, intelligent, experienced, had already studied Journalism and worked in the role. Former Fla player, champion of the centenary in 65. He entered in 3rd place. With Lazaroni, he appointed Julinho to Fla in 1976 (first professional experience as a Trained Coach).

Ronald – one of the first placed, brilliant memory and storyteller, RonaldPedia. He played a ball, he looked like the Ronaldinho who came later.

Waldyr – our Fleeper, did not swim, flew in the pool, in addition to playing Water Polo, Silver medal in the Vestibular, intelligent, studious and cultured, very simple and humble, he became Honorable Director of the EEFD years later, making us all proud.

Jorge Eiras – one of the Romans in the class, the big strong and tremendous jokers, greeted each other holding his classmate’s forearm firmly with his hand. He swam a lot and carried the team on his back in an internal competition, winning the race. Julinho remembers having reached the edge just like Jacaré, to give his turn to him in a position to arrive with great effort em primeiro.

Solange – eternal gratitude, admirable human being, empathy and sympathy in one person, born on the same day as Pelé and Sônia do Julinho (October 23, Three Kings and Queens Day), one of the leaders of the Pioneers, the famous “Colleague” or “Solo”. Solo gave Julinho many rides when he lived on the Island and still didn’t have a car.

Antonio Barbudo – all his life with a beard, he was one of those who trained Judo with Julinho, similar size and weight, but he had color in the belt, Baduzinho’s was colorless.

Cauim – was also one of those who trained Judo the most with Julinho, much more graduated and experienced, taught. Good guy!

Mauro de Santa Maria – in addition to his qualities as a student, then as a Professor, Master and Doctor in Bodybuilding, also Romano, had and has artistic gifts, responsible for the drawings that brightened the invitation to graduation. Diamond!

Djalma – Great Alligator, in addition to the swimming episode, owner of great power to overcome, helped in the formation of a united, strong, cohesive group, pure synergy that enhanced the qualities of each one and overcame limitations. A joker, a sharp sense of humor, just look at a person and a nickname would come up that would stick like chewing gum.

Andonia – Greek, a Greek Goddess, who in her college days had little relationship with her colleagues, had her reasons, but an excellent student, one of the precursors of Rhythmic Gymnastics, winning with her teams many competitions in Rio, Brazil and the World. A pillar of the construction of Sport that today brings us pride. Beautiful sport that values female grace.

Celinha – Pingo de Ouro, a great figure, known in Leme and at the Faculty. Always cheerful and smiling, present at all the Meetings, until in the Pandemic he went to Heaven, he became a Star there too.

Celina (Speaker) – Brilliant student, beautiful Speech.

Carlos Cesar, an excellent student, defender of the Flu and the School, a Roman of those who gathered to talk and nickname the unwary. Always correct and attentive to the causes, later two-time World Cup Champion.

Regininha – another love of person, married a classmate, but got along with everyone and closed with Solange to this day.

Nequinha – Son of the famous Coach Neca, they met on the Island long before College, where Julinho lived and Seo Neca spent the holidays from Football. Always cheerful and smiling, he entered skinny, became very strong with bodybuilding classes, the Romans nicknamed him Submarino, Sub, as he is known until now. He always liked to dance.

Léa Laborinha – excellent student and teamwork, foundation for her Leadership in the Group after graduation, from the 25th Birthday Party. Tireless when the date of the annual party approaches, which this year becomes biannual. He discovers a needle in a haystack.

Espezim – of the deans of the class, nicknamed Bermuda in Football, reporter, journalist, lawyer, teacher and coach, of the normal the craziest that Juju (as he called his colleague) knew. She did each one in college and outside of it!   Insulano, Advisor to João Havelange, creator of the BFA (Brazilian Football Academy) for the development of African football and later other continents. His and Havelange’s dream (Baduzinho’s too) was to see an African country host a World Cup (South Africa hosted – 2010) and win one too (only won in the Base and Olympics). Another that the Pandemic took to the Skies.

Maurição – one of the strongest men he knew, graduated in all combat sports, did 200 push ups to warm up before falling into the pool, a love of a person, until he got bored. To one who unjustly accused him of playing paper balls, in the Amphitheater of Medicine, he said: I’m not going to hit you, call your brother (from the same class), your husband, and your family members and I’ll take it out on everyone. To another he said: I’ll break your two legs, your two arms and the hangman, do you want to see? In Boxing class he liked to fight with Julinho, he said that he could hit with all his strength, but his powerful blows locked 1 cm from the target. In a training session, he went straight towards the head of the small and naïve colleague, stopping very close, but obediently, the colleague he admired for being part of the lungs of the School team – he was Prep. Physical – dropped the bomb in the direction of the exposed mouth. Maurição felt something strange, ran his tongue and felt the blood, transformed, sent an Upper Cut with almost all his strength, Julinho crossed his arms from below in defense, came out of the ground, levitated, his arms opened a little, the blow still lightly hitting the chin of the contender, who twirled, took advantage and left the ring. Come back to São Pedro! He didn’t come back, St. Peter came down from the ring, St. Peter ran 200 meters in zero seconds, down the corridor to the cafeteria… When he returned to normal, Maurição apologized. You accept, of course!

Lazaroni (same class since high school at CPII). Sebastião Barroso Lazaroni, classmate since 1963 at CPII Boarding School in São Cristóvão, same class in Gymnasium and Scientific, then 3 in college and 5 in Fla (he and Jayme who appointed Julio Leal to Fla in 1976), first job as a paid Coach. A champion. Manigo (Brother + Friend). Goalkeeper!

So many dear ones from Baduzinho: Chiquinho Pastor (Minister of Messianic), Lula Paiva (one of the best beach players), J. Alves (top scorer, Shirt 9), Georgette (intelligent and beautiful), Zé Roberto (the most injured in college, Zé Acidente)), Layla (the first Climber that Julinho met, beautiful life story), Luiz Felipe (from Basketball, from Niterói), Carlos Roberto (Cascavel,  insulano, a winner), Tadeu who came from the South and did very well until today, Zélia and Dionísio (XX couple who graduated from the class), Alexandre and Paquinha two beasts in Volleyball and so many other important ones who formed the most incredible and united class known.

Classes only began when three collective conduits arrived in Fundão: the Kid’s Batmobile (Euclides), which was waiting for colleagues who came from Barca de Niterói and nearby regions; Miudinho (Saldanha), who came with a Kombi full of people from Meriti and surroundings; and Nelson Parente, who brought his friends from the South Zone in a fast Beetle, causing apprehension in the hitchhikers, because he had a paddler’s foot, very heavy, he thought it was the Fittipaldi.
