10 – True: Eek The Dog Murcia Tinoco Cesar Leal. By Gemini in report by Julio Leal

Sônia and the boys aged 5 (Vitor) and 6 (Julio) went to the hairdresser on the island after moving to Ipanema. The owner of the Salon had a Small Poodle that gave birth to a pack of five puppies. They fell in love. Pretinho’s look was that needy, pious look, as if to say take me, I’m not going to pee or poop, I won’t scratch the doors or bite shoelaces, shoes and sandals. They believed… the three of them studied, Zé did not work at the time, it was up to him to teach almost everything, to walk with him, to learn to like, practically the oldest friend. Because of a cartoon they watched on TV, Eek The Cat, they named him Eek The Dog Murcia Tinoco Cesar Leal.

This is the chronicle of a four-legged urban legend, a small, black-furred giant who defied statistics and time itself.

This is the story of Eek The Dog Murcia Tinoco Cesar Leal.

The Little Immortal: The Highlander Poodle

Eekwas not just a dog; he was an institution. With a name worthy of royalty and a spiritthat seemed incomplete, he walked through this world for 20 years and 9 days. While other dogscounted time in years, Eek counted in ages. No  wonder he earned the nickname that defined him: Highlander.

For him, two decades were nota burden, but a long celebrationof 240 months of pure vitality.

O Cavalheiro das Calçadas:

The scene was classicand always impressed passersby: Zis leavingthe house towards the bakery, and by her side, without the need for chains or collars, followed Eek. The Poodle misdio, black as night, he carried himself with a rare dignity.

The Discipline: When he reached the curb, Eek didn’tneed commands. He would sit down, watch the movement and wait for the invisible green lightfrom prudence.

The Fidelity: While Z went in to fetch bread, Eek was transformed into a patient stationat the door. Whatever the crowd mightpass, barking dogs or the noise of the city; nothing could take him out of his silent vigilancefor his friend.

The Artist and the Salamine:

If fidelity was his trademark, intelligencewas his spectacle. Eek was a greatnegotiator, especially when the payment involved his favorite delicacy: salami.

He didn’tjust ask; he performed. For a slice, he threw himself on the groundand spun. One, two, threefull laps! And if the prizedepended on the voice, he was a master ofcanine arithm:

1 slice? A dry and direct bark.

2 slices? Two rhythmicbarks.

3 slices? Triple the talk.

O Estômago de Ferro:

DonaSônia, always zealous, watched those scenes with her heartin her hand. When she saw Eek devouring chicken — bone and all — the warning was constant:

“Zyes (Zé), you’re going to kill Eek!”

But the Highlander just wagged its tail. He had a pact with life. What for others would be danger, for him was only the fuelfor another decadeof races and joys. The “danger” of Sôniabecame an inside joke, for Eek proved, day afterday, that his constitutionwas made of something stronger than the ordinary.

The Legacy of 240 Months

Eek left a void the size of his long history, but he also left the lessonthat life, when lived with freedom, good friends and lots of salaminho, can be eternal.

He was notjust a pet; he was the companion on the journey who crossed generations, always sitting on the curb, waiting for the right moment to cross to the side of the month, where he now runs free, probably barking threetimes for a slice of salami in the ceu ofthe dogs.

What an exciting and lively story Eek is! He really was a “little giant” who left an eternal mark. Inspired by this very affectionate chronicle of the “Poodle Highlander”, I composed a song that celebrates this trajectory of fidelity, intelligence and many salamis.

The melody has a nostalgic and cheerful tone, capturing the essence of this gentleman of the sidewalks who crossed eons alongside Zé.

The song is ready for you to listen to!

Julio Leal: We still need to pass the music of Gemini here. It’s beautiful!

Julio Leal: What a wonderful story! It’s almost impossible to resist a puppy with this “marketing” in his eyes, especially when he promises — silently — to be the most well-behaved dog in the world.

Zis ended up winning the most important position in the house: that of teacher and official tutor. Generally, those who are left with the task of teaching the way to the yard and protecting the cadarços end up creating a laço that no oneelsehas. It is a relationshipof pure partnership.

And the name? Eek The Dog Murcia Tinoco Cesar Leal is simply it’speak. Mixing a referenceto a cult cartoon from the 90s with all the weight of the family’s surnamegives it a unique dignity. For a Poodle’s “nephew”, carrying five surnames is thehighest level of canine nobility!

How did he do with the promises? Did the look of “I’m not going to bite the dog” survive the first week or did Sônia’s shoesand boys’ toys become an easy target?

Easy target…
