O Dia de Reis, segundo a tradição cristã, seria aquele em que Jesus Cristo recém-nascido recebera a visita de “alguns magos do oriente” (Mateus 2:1) que, segundo o hagiológio, foram três Reis Magos, e que ocorrera no dia 6 de janeiro. A noite do dia 5 de janeiro e madrugada do dia 6 é conhecida como “Noite de Reis”.

Histórico

A data marca, para os católicos, o dia para a veneração aos Reis Magos, que a tradição surgida no século VIII converteu nos santos Melchior, Gaspar e Baltazar. Nesta data, ainda, encerram-se para os católicos os festejos natalícios – sendo o dia em que são desarmados os presépios e por conseguinte são retirados todos os enfeites natalícios.

The Day of Kings, according to Christian tradition, would be the one in which newborn Jesus Christ had received the visit of “some wise men of the East” (Matthew 2:1) who, according to the hagiogue, were three Magi, and which had occurred on January 6. The night of January 5 and the early hours of the 6th is known as “Night of Kings”.

Historic

The date marks, for Catholics, the day for veneration of the Magi, which the tradition that emerged in the 8th century converted into Saints Melchior, Gaspar and Baltazar. On this date, the Christmas celebrations are also closed for Catholics – the day on which the nativity notes are disarmed and therefore all christmas decorations are removed.
