8th CUP
1966
In the farewell of a great generation Brazilian, the conquest with which The English dreamed for a long time.
In 1966, the magic phrase –
“Brasil Tricampeão” –
started to lose charm when
it found that changes in the European football
had been, Really, radical. And effective.
Based on football strength, which was
the physicist allied to the technique – and not
to the violence – Europe
seriously prepared for
retrieve the cup. Brazil no longer had
the bi generation in the fullness of their forces.
The heroes were there, it’s true. But on the way to the west.
The Europe had at least four
good teams: England, owner of the house.
West Germany,
with their lab game already
on evolution. Portugal, under the
command of a coach Brazilian (Oto Glória) and with
some individual talents. And
the Hungary, not as powerful as in 54,
however, again strong.
England won the final o
Occidental Germany. There were
those who discussed the feat. The
Champions, however, are indisputable.
And England – who bequeathed the game to us –
deserved a title in its history.

A party without the Brazilian heat,
but lived, too Deep in the heart of every player of the Queen.
The History of the World Cup: 50 years of emotion and goal. CBF
P.S .– The evolution of the Game Systems that occurred in the previous
World Cups, in which Brazil set foot in the future and advanced from
G – 4 – 2 – 4, to G – 4 – 3 – 3, due to the physical-technical-tactical
characteristics from Zagallo, it was understood by the British who
pushed back beyond the left winger, the right winger as well, working as
midfielders, leaving two spearheads in charge of the attack. In addition,
they improved the Physical Preparation Methods, and the Style of Play:
Play and not let play.
The G – 4 – 4 – 2 came in practice, although in the line-ups, as in other
Cups, in G – 4 – 3 – 3.
P.S. II – I heard, from a participant as a player in
that World Cup, that he even acted that the preparation was disruptive,
having been summoned 44 players who until the last hour did not know
who would travel, in addition to not giving shape to the starting team and
possible changes. For champions in the previous World Cup, we didn’t
play in the qualifiers.
So much so that, when João Saldanha took over
the Selection for the Qualifiers of the 1970 World Cup, he decided to call
22 players, defining from the beginning Eleven Holder and Reserve. He
qualified Brazil for that Cup.
