France Football magazine  awarded the Ballon d’Or to the best player in the world in 2024 on  Monday (28).  The event took place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

Brazilian striker Vinicius Júnior, from Real Madrid, was quoted as one of the favorites for the award, but the trophy went to Spanish midfielder Rodri, from Manchester City, who wins the Ballon d’Or for the first time.

Among the women, the chosen one was the Spanish Aitana Bonmatí, who had already won the award in the 2023 edition.

The first award of the night was given to Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal, who won the Kopa Trophy for revelation of the season.

France Football has also awarded the best clubs in the world in men’s and women’s football. Among the women, Barça, the current European champion, took the honor. Among the men, the chosen one was Real Madrid, which did not send representatives to the ceremony.

In the same way that no representative of the Merengues received the trophy given to the club, there was also no one to receive the Gerd Müller Trophy, which Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, a Real player, shared with England’  s Harry Kane, from Bayern Munich. The category rewards the top scorers of the season.

Among the goalkeepers, who received the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper was the Argentine Emiliano Martínez, who had already won the last edition of the Ballon d’Or. “Dibu”, as he is known, became two-time champion of the Copa America with the Argentine National Team in July this year.

Jennifer Hermoso, from the Spanish national team, took the Socrates Award. The category recognizes solidarity actions carried out by football personalities.

Hermoso denounced Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish Football Federation, for sexual assault over a forced kiss in the celebration of the Women’s World Cup title, in September 2023.

European and LaLiga champion with Real Madrid, coach Carlo Ancelotti was voted the best in the world. However, like the rest of the Madrid delegation, the Italian did not attend the event in Paris.
