2 – MOZER. WE START WITH A VERY INTERESTING, CURIOUS, REAL CASE. SEVERAL PRACTICAL LESSONS

In 1975 I worked as a Physical Trainer in the Professional Team of Olaria Atlético Clube, in Bariri, with the excellent Coach Prof. Américo Faria, although already graduated Football Coach in 1974 (later, in 1993 called Coach).

I arrived early to watch the preliminary, in our field, also between Olaria and Botafogo. To everyone’s surprise Botafogo do Seo Neca (a trainer of Athletes, combination of man and player, a pioneer) won 5-0, a result that I do not remember the base of Hello having suffered, with the 5 (five) goals scored by the shirt 9 (nine), light center-forward, short, lepid, technical and oxygenated hair. That image to this day does not leave the memory.

On June 1, 1976 I started working as a Coach of the Children and Youth of the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, on the recommendation of Professors Jayme Valente and Lazaroni, colleagues of Faculty, Friends, Pioneers, promoted to Youth and Professional. One day, we were training in Gávea, which was common, and at the end of the training I was heading to the locker rooms when I noticed that player from the Stove, the one with the 5 goals, accompanied by the Father, I thought: we won a Player… Father addressed me saying that he had taken his son from Botafogo because the boy did not like to play in front, with his back to the defenders, who preferred to start from the front, was light and technical.

I asked them to come the next day bringing the cleats, the game, and the documents, the Release, even. I knew I would record it. He trained in midfield showing qualities, and we registered him immediately. Born in 1960, in 76 the age limit in Infanto was born in 58, we had an excellent team, formed by Master Jayme. Mozer was being worked with the others of 59 and 60 (some of 61 and 62) for the following seasons, the Fla had impeccable work created by Prof. Francalacci in the weight room, which helped many to reach its maximum, and already in 77 was part of the game cast, but finally in 78 formed a spectacular midfield, with Dourado (5), Mozer (8) and Niltinho (10). The 3 (three of short stature, 2 (last two with the same 1.60 m and with 60 kilos) but excellent and of complementary qualities of the 4-3-3. In the year in which he turned 18, Mozer had two stages of growth of 15 cm each, reaching the end of the year with 1.90 m. The Fla, with this generation of Pratas-da-Casa (Gold of the House) was the last Champion of Infanto-Juvenile, because in 1979 this Category began to be called Juvenile, and the old Juvenil became Junior, or Juniors. The whole team was promoted to Junior, where Professors Américo and Jairo Leal were.

By planning, CT counting on the 2 (two) young and excellent players, champions in the previous year, Figueiredo (an outlier), and Denílson, left-handed quarterback, strong and technical, Captain of the Title team, decided to release the central defenders of last year to use both, for the connection. It turns out that, as Supervisor Luiz Carlos informed me at the time, Denílson tried his release from the Army (18 years old), but engaged, not performing. In the first training sessions it was sought to find a quarter-defender (denomination in Brazil for the fourth player to become a defender, because before there were 2, then 3), again according to reports, the Coach in conversation with the Assistant Seo Bria (a three-time champion in the Fla, Paraguayan, clinical eye, very modest, fun and honest) said in his Paraguayan Portunhol: “Poñe that grandon” of the reserve midfield, he is tall and will develop fast alongside the excellent Figueredo. Thus, he was made a starter a year before bursting the age in the now Junior, up to 20 years, born in 59, as 4th. Defender.

He reached the Professional before Figueiredo and the Brazilian National Team, considered by many the greatest defender of all time of Mengão. I will go further, had it been used in the game against Argentina in 1990 and the history of the tetra could be different, but that is already another story, for another chapter that I can write. The “if” doesn’t count. By the way, it already deserved the convocation in 82 (another page I can write here).

José Carlos Nepomuceno Mozer – stressed syllable closed in the “o” as “ô”, later changing to “ó” open syllable, as if with acute accent, from what I heard, change suggested by the Journalists, for better sonorization of the rare name. It worked, it seems to have helped… Details… The details matter!

I heard, recently, Mozer himself tell his version in a beautiful interview on Youtube, this, humbly, is mine, as I realized and remember. In what I heard from Mozer himself, his growth may have been due to a treatment for the growth made in an Indoor Football Club where he played. At Flamengo, at that time we didn’t do it.
