Overall analysis
• The IX FIFA U-17 World Championship was contested by 16 different countries, belonging to 6 Confederations, in 32 matches.
In the past played as U-16, the 2001 World Championships in Trinidad & Tobago allowed players born on or after January 1, 1984.
It is the first time that a country with a population like Trinidad & Tobago (1,300,000 inhabitants!!) has hosted an event of this size.
This initiative will allow other countries of small size, with smaller populations, but with great love for football, and courage to also be motivated to host other Tournaments organized by FIFA.
For the first time in the world, the National Anthems were played before the games by PAN BAND, with enormous success and charm for the party.
The population throughout the country supported the competition, which meant that the new and beautiful stadiums were always packed, even when TNT was not playing, offering favorable conditions for the players to surpass themselves and achieve the highest performance.
The time in which the competition was held was adequate for the preparation of the teams, who were able to arrive at the tournament in good condition for the best performance.
The schedule allowed a good amount of time between the games, favoring the quality of the show. Being the country a set of two Trinidad Islands (which hosted 3 groups, A-Hasely Crawford Stadium-Port of Spain, C-Ato Boldon Stadium-Couva and Mannie Ramjonh Stadium-Marabella-San Fernando, and D-Larry Gomes Stadium-Malabar-Arima) and Tobago (which hosted a group, B-Dwight York Stadium), from which the champion and runner-up came out), the distances for locomotion between the phases were also made without prejudice to the preparation.
Technical Level
• The technical level was very high, possibly the best ever presented in competitions in this age group.
• Certainly, among those who played in the competition, several players will play for their senior national teams and rise to stardom in world football, at least as much as the previous competitions that revealed: ………

Technical-Tactical Analysis
• Watching or analyzing the matches of the U-17 World Championship held in Trinidad & Tobago, one had the impression of observing games in the adult category, both for the physical complexion of the players, their physical capacity, and the technical-tactical qualification of the players and teams.
• Even though this was the initial competition for football players worldwide, the feeling that the games conveyed was the harmony between the conception of the coaches and their athletes. Similar to what had already happened in 1998 in France, in the main category, the present indicates a future of eclectic, versatile physical-technical-tactical qualification of the players, and the ability to execute various tactical plans, strategies and systems, mainly because, within the competition, everyone gets to know each other, and those who are more able to adapt to the competition vary from system to system. Tactics and strategies, according to their strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of their opponents, end up prevailing, just as they did in this competition and had already happened in the last adult World Cup.
• The European teams are very developed in the tactical plan, playing in a very compact way in defense and with tactical variations and intelligence in attack, but perfecting their players in the technique and well-known creativity of the South Americans and speed of the Africans, just as France, Spain and Croatia presented. From this modern conception was born the champion, France, as well as Spain who presented a high level, not being able to show more why they left in the first round.
• The South American teams are seeking to modernize themselves in tactical planning and in the search for the most modern, dominant, and winning systems, without prejudice to the individual quality of the players, and their freedom of expression, as presented by Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
• The African teams, without giving up the creativity of their fast players, presented good tactical organization, improved their marking and coverage systems and presented, as is modernly sought, to have alternatives to surprise the opponents. In this way, they were once again present in the final, with Nigeria, in addition to Mali who took the bronze medal and Burkina Faso who reached the semifinal.
• The CONCACAF teams continue to search for their own identity, but they are already quite mature in the formation of a basic system and some derivatives or alternatives, with a good level of technical capacity and speed in attack. Costa Rica, USA, TNT. Costa Rica made it through to the second round, and Trinidad & Tobago, playing for the first time in this tournament, introduced the world to good players who scored goals for the first time in any World Cup final, and the first goal, scored by Nkosi Blackman, can be considered the most beautiful among many in the World Cup, giving enormous hope to this confederation.
• The representative of Oceania, for the umpteenth time qualified for the final phase of the category, as in the U-20, always advancing to the following phases, perfected in the technical qualification of the players, very developed in the physical aspect, but still with great rigidity in the tactical systematization of the team and small variations within the competition, which allows the opponents to mark the main players and plays.
• The representatives of Asia, without losing the main characteristics of speed and objectivity, improve the technical quality of the players with each competition, but still present rigidity in the system with few significant variations.

• Basic System: G-3-5-2. Most games.
• Derivative : G-3-4-3. Against Nigeria (1st Round)
• Derivative : G-3-6-1.
• Alternate : 4-5-1. In the final, against Nigeria. Due to the characteristics of the players, one could think of a 4-4-2, but the number 7 played back in the midfield sector, playing a key role in that match, surprising the opponent and even becoming the best on the field, indicating the need to strengthen the middle to dominate, when two teams are equal.
• Marking Method:
Type: Zone;
Location: Opponent midfielder or head of the big circle.
Intensity: High, under pressure. Active, after organizing the team, goes to get the ball.
Compactness: Very good, advancing the defensive line and backing back the attackers as much as necessary (at least to the midfield);
Tactics: The number seven, on long and high balls, was the main target of the ball exits from the defense and midfield. Also long in the back of the defense or the wingers to the number 9. Objective attacks ending in the box, combined plays in the corners and fouls. View annotations!!
Technical level: Excellent. Highlighting 9, 10, 7, 12, 8, 5.
Physical level: Excellent;
Tactical plan: by compactness, taking possession of the ball and playing, either on long balls when he found the opponent open, or playing at speed until the opportunity appeared. No one holds the ball.
Flexibility in the system, adapting to the opponent, practically varying from game to game (with success) and within the game itself, due to the versatility of the players. Offensive planning, focused on the attack, due to the qualities of its midfielders and attackers. The 9 was the top scorer of the team, of the competition and broke the record for goals scored which was …, in …
Key player: 10
Playmaker: 10
Best player: 9, 10, 7.

• Basic system: G-4-3-3. Active, offensive and with exchanges. Swing in defense with the full-back on the opposite side closing to help the 2 central defenders, or the defensive midfielder, 6, entering as 3rd. defender. In this case, the striker-pointer on the side would retreat to cover the space;
Derivative system: G-3-6-1 (only the 7 being in front, and in defense, the 5 making the 3rd defender.
G-3-4-3.
Alternate System: G-5-4-1, in the Final against France (whose system, in practice, eventually prevailed).
Marking Method:
Type: Zone
Location: All over the field.
Intensity: Very high. They try not to let the opponent play in all parts of the field, to counterattack already in the opponent’s field, at speed and objectively, almost always from the flanks.
Compactness: only reasonable, with defenders sometimes staying away from the midfielders, giving opponents space to play there.
Tactics: they work on the plays on the wings, with tables between wingers and midfielders, or passing on the sides, to objectively play the ball in the area. They didn’t feature foul plays and corners.
Technical Level: excellent. Mainly 17, 11, 10, 4, 5;
Physical level: excellent. Speed, agility and endurance, including speed;
Game plan: They play attack-oriented, using the wingers and full-backs in support, crossing balls or reversing the front of play with high and long balls to the opposite side. In the final they looked for a tactical change to overcome the Franca team, but changed their own characteristics, with the wingers playing back in the marking and the Playmaker/Playmaker playing back in the protection of the defenders, not having achieved the same productivity as in the previous games, despite the quality of the opponent.
Key player: 17;
Point guard/playmaker: 17;
Best player: 17, 11, 10, 4, 5;

• Basic system: G-3-5-2, but with peculiarities in distribution. RESET THE SYSTEM BECAUSE IN MY EVALUATION THE 9 and 8 ARE ATACANTES_PONTEIROS THAT GO BACKWARDS, with 3-4-3 characteristics.
• Derivative system: G-4-3-3, with the 2 acting as the 4th defender
• Backup system: G-4-4-2 when they use?? /
Marking Method:
Type: Zone
Location: Countryside. But against Argentina they scored from midfield.
Intensity: Under maximum pressure, active, going against the opponent to take the ball and play.
Tactics: see…
Technical level: good (10, 11.8, 6, 16), except for finishing, only reasonable.
Physical level: good, fast, agile, resistant;
Game plan: offensive team, which plays forward and attacking, because they understand that they are faster than their opponents. In the final phase they became less offensive, respecting the stage and the opponents. Diagonal!!!???
Key player: 11, 8, and defensively the 6,
Playmaker/Playmaker: 10;
Best player: 11;

• Basic System: G-3-5-2;
• Derivative System: G-3-6-1;
• Derivative System II: G-4-4-2, with the 14 playing as the defending left back;
• Alternative System: 3-4-3, used against Spain, in the second half, when they lost the game, with the 17 acting as a striker on the left wing, managing to turn the game around and qualify;
• Marking Method:
Type: Zone, letting opponent play;
Location: from the middle line of the field. Against Spain, losing, they took a good lead;
Intensity: Under pressure, even when they return to midfield. Passive, letting the opponent play, at times, already in his field of defense;
Technical level: good, some excellent (9, 8, defender);
Physical level: Fair, tough, slow compared to opponents;
Game plan: They seek to control the rhythm of the game and the style of short and quick touches through the midfield, as well as trying to command the refereeing;
Key Player: 9. In some games the 5;
Point guard/playmaker: 10 and 8;
Best Player: 9

• Derivative System: Not Presented
• Marking Method:
Type: Zone, with flexibility
Location: Intermediate;
Intensity: Under pressure, active, going to take the ball and making 2 and 3 x 1 on the sides of the field;
Compactness: very good, with the defense and midfield working very compact like two parallel saws, the full-back on the opposite side closing to mark an attacker to leave a defender, and the post on that side retreating to cover the side of the field. When it came to playing, not only the midfielders close to the wings advanced, but also those who play centrally protecting the defense, uncommon these days;
Technical Level: Good;
Physical level: Very good. Strength, endurance and speed,
Game plan: Very well organized tactical structure to counter the opponents, not giving spaces or allowing the opponent to play. They counterattacked with long balls to the 2 attackers who did not retreat to score, or with the ball driven at speed by either midfielder;
Key player: various, 9, 14, 1, 13
Point guard/playmaker: 9

• 8
• Basic System: G-4-4-2. They started with this well-defined system with the number 8 as an attacking midfielder and 13 and 17 up front, then they kept the system, but advanced the 8 for the attack (although he has the characteristics of a midfielder, but a good finisher), starting to use the number 12 as a midfielder next to the left back.
• Derivative System: 4-5-1, with only the 8 up front and the other players acting as midfielders, 13 and 12 wide open and deep to help the full-backs to score on the flanks, similar to what happened in the last match.
• Alternative System; They did not;
• Marking Method:
Type: Zone. In the game with… They made a mixed marking, with the 3/4 defender marking individually in all parts of the field the opposing striker number …
Location: At the head of the great circle;
Compactness: very compact at the beginning, when defending, making it difficult for opponents to play. In the last game, they retreated the team a lot, especially the speed players, alternating their characteristics, without, however, achieving the same pattern of compaction and tackling,
Technical Level: Good,
Physical Level: Good. Strength, speed and power, providing a certain aggressiveness in attacking the ball in marking;
Game plan: based on a good set, I aimed to block the spaces well and score hard to come out on counterattacks with 13, then 12 as well, with the certainty of the team’s good level of finishing, especially the 8 who is a midfielder but finishes well and with power. When they played against an opponent with a player of higher quality, they marked him individually,
Key Player: 8, 13, 5
Playmaker: 8 in the first two games, then 10
Best Player: 8 & 13
