6 – Mario Tito: only 1 (one) minute of silence…
After playing at Olaria Atlético Clube between 67 and 69, at Escolinha (up to 17 years old – Carioca Champion), in Infanto and Juvenile, I went to intern at Profissional in 1972, at the invitation of the late Professor Arnaldo Cavalcante Belota, on the recommendation of Professor Ênio Farias.
I was in the 3rd. and last year of college, was 21 years old, at the time the main team of Hello was a powerhouse, disputed the Main Division of the Brazilian with the support of the Meritorious Mr. Álvaro da Costa Melo, under the Presidency of the Drs Raymundo Jomery Calomeni and Edmundo dos Santos Cigarro. It was beautiful!
There were young Pratas-da-Casa, Gilberto and Ronaldo who played with me in Escolinha, Batata, Pirulito, Lulinha, Rubens, Ronaldo Boca, Beto and others, also the most mature players, over 30 years old, some with 36 and 37, several with passages for clubs of great investment (there is no big or small club) and for the National Team, such as Garrincha (himself, the one who along with Pelé never lost a game in the National Team, that of the crooked legs (one genuvalgum, the other varum), “The Joy of the People”, which will have here a story of its own in this passage. Jair Pereira, Roberto Pinto, Jorge Vitório, Mickey, Salvador, Altivo (played alongside the King in Santos) and one, in particular that I honor here: Mario Tito.
At the time, with about 32 years, champion of Rio de Janeiro with Bangu, in 1966, in a timaço: Ubirajara, Fidélis, Mário Tito, Luís Alberto and Ari Clemente; Jaime and Ocimar; Paulo Borges, Ladeira, Cabralzinho and Aladim. The coach was Alfredo Gonzalez. He played for Cruzeiro and Galicia-Bahia, I think in the national team as well, in 1963. He was the one who arrived early every day (he didn’t live near Bariri), trained like the boys, an example of honesty and loyalty, in his own way, quiet, helped unite the group… a cheerful, playful cast, pulled by Mane and his lizards (that 2-finger tug on the biceps or trapeze). The younger ones, especially, played with him, Mario Tito, in the time when there was no “bullying” or mimimi… Being a little stuttering, they tried to make him nervous, when his speech worsened, they imitated him, told a stuttering joke, but he laughed at the corner of his mouth, and from the top of his almost 1m90, he fired:
Nananão fafado iisso cocomigo muffins onlymiminute dede ssilêncio tetem mamais domais than vovos de iidade! We all laughed, and they hugged him, he was like a Father!
Great Mario Tito, a great good guy! Honesty was his name, and I know why I’m talking! He the first to arrive, I the second to pick up the weight, we talked a lot until the arrival of the third.
With all the affection and respect!
God bless you in Heaven, Mario Tito, and Family!
